Fiery Hot Baked Cheese Macaroni
This amazing baked cheese macaroni recipe comes from
a traditional family cookbook. Only in my version it
is kicked up a notch with asian chili sauce.
You can serve this homemade macaroni and cheese recipe as a side for your favorite
Thanksgiving recipe, or any other time of year
with chicken or beef. And as a leftover, macaroni and cheese can
be served as a meal all its own.
Now, I know the title of this baked cheese macaroni recipe is a
mouthful, but once you try it you'll see
why I could not leave a word out. The four cheeses
and Huy Fong sauce make this my personal
favorite macaroni and cheese recipe.
If you can't find the Huy Fong Chili Sauce at
your local grocer, you can substitute with 2
tablespoons of ketchup and 2 tablespoons of your
favorite hot sauce. But, for this baked cheese macaroni recipe it is worth the effort
to find some Huy Fong Chili Sauce. I know this
sounds strange, but after you try it once you
will be a believer.
Four Cheese Hot Baked Cheese Macaroni
Ingredients:
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
2 2/3 cups 1% low-fat milk
3/4 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
1/2 cup grated fresh Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
3 ounces light processed cheese, such as light Velveeta
6 cups elbow macaroni, cooked
2 tablespoons
Huy Fong Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce
(add more to your taste)
1/4 teaspoon salt
Cooking spray
1/3 cup onion melba toasts, 12 pieces, crushed
1 tablespoon reduced-calorie margarine, softened
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Place flour in a large saucepan. Gradually add milk,
stirring with a whisk until blended. Cook over medium
heat 8 minutes or until thick, stirring constantly. Add cheeses; cook
3 minutes or until cheese melts, stirring frequently.
- Remove from heat; stir in macaroni and salt. Add Huy
Fong Chili Sauce, and stir in.
- Spoon mixture into a 2-quart casserole coated with
cooking spray.
- Combine crushed toasts and margarine in a small bowl;
stir until well- blended. Sprinkle over macaroni mixture.
- Bake for 30 minutes or until bubbly.
Boxed Macaroni and Cheese Recipe
Now, if baked cheese macaroni is more trouble than you want to
go through, you can make this recipe from any
boxed macaroni and cheese(ie. Kraft). Just follow the directions on the box
as you normally would, I always like to add some
extra Velveeta cheese, but it isn't necessary. The
key ingredient is the
Huy Fong Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce
. I
guarantee you, this is the best macaroni and cheese
recipe you'll ever try. (Sorry Grandma!)
